To me, it is a little wild to think that we are rapidly approaching the 4th anniversary of Jan. 6th which regardless of your views, the event was a terrifying day to be on The Hill as I was. Over the last month or so we have been getting regular updates from the Sargent at Arms over what they were doing to prep for the Jan. 3rd swearing-in, the Jan. 6 Electoral College Count, and the Jan. 20th Presidential Inauguration. With the sudden passing of Former President Jimmy Carter and with him laying in state on roughly the 9th, full details have not been announced yet, it is another huge piece of the puzzle.
I flew back into town the night of the 29th and spent yesterday putting stuff away and sleeping but today I ventured out to see what everything was looking like. Well DC has gone FULL on aftermath of Jan. 6th when they first installed the unscalable fencing.
Unlike previous times when they have added this fencing they have included the House Office Buildings and I would assume the Senate Office Buildings in the fencing. If I remember correctly it was a little over 2.5 miles of fencing in total to do this but it's been almost 4 years so I can't exactly recall. For Staff, it is going to be a HUGEEEEE pain in the ass to enter these spaces starting in a couple of days and through the inauguration. Tomorrow I will post about all the crazy drills they have been running on The Hill that TBH visitors likely were horrified to see.
Now now though here is what it looks like in the Capitol Complex. I also noticed a lot of trash trucks that looked like they were "gearing up" to be used to close off streets as well. We are supposed to get up to 10 inches of snow on Jan 6th so that will be an interesting tid bit for sure.
