daaamn now I have to read/see them all to be able to choose one :) making a list because I see some interesting names here. I read/saw: Dune, 3 body problem, the foundation, altered carbon
I will remain from these with the foundation.
reply
Yes, I have only read 7 from the list. There are three highly recommended to read that I haven’t even seen, yet. I just don’t know if there is enough time to get to read them.

I've been enjoying the The Expanse series by James SA Corey. This is my first Science Fiction series outside of film/television though.
reply
I hope you get to some of the other series. Some of them are very, very good reads.

Thank you, I have been eyeing up the three body problem as it's the only one on your list that my local bookseller holds.
reply
Already the leader from the list is the Dune Chronicles by Frank Herbert. The way to read them is first read the ones Frank Herbert wrote and then try the others in the timeline for this post: #730664

I haven't read any book from the list, so I'll risk to choose a game instead: Sanabi.
But better would random pick for the next read: Altered Carbon come to me!
reply
Altered Carbon is an interesting read, too. The whole list is full of good reads.
reply
Bro, The Expanse series by James S.A. Corey!

You will get your chance to choose The Expanse in a later poll. Keep your eyes open for the chance.

I've only read Dune and Foundation, out of those listed. Both are excellent, but I chose Dune. I found it to be the more captivating experience.
With the rise of Trump, I was glad to have read the second book in the foundation series. At least my recollection is that The Mule was in the second book.
reply
Yeah, he is in the second, Foundation and Empire. He is looking for the Second Foundation and their mentalic group.

Yeah, this is tricky because to decide I'd have to read all of them. I only read The three body problem and that one was great - what happens when extinctionalist communism meets even worse extinctionalist communism :)
reply
Oh, that one sounds very interesting. I have had it on my reading list for after reading the last 23 Dune Chronicle books that I haven’t read.
reply
I'm actually currently in the middle of the third book Death's End, but I enjoyed reading the second book The Dark Forest much more than the first book. I actually thought the first book was meh, but it sets the stage for the big ideas Cixin Liu explores in the following books.
reply
This sounds a lot like what happens with Asimov’s Robots stories! This kind of development makes for better books later in the series and is very welcome if you can make it through the book that sets everything up.

Dune is the only one on this list I have even heard of
reply
Perhaps this list would be a good start for more Science Fiction reading for the future. They are all highly recommended by most who read them. The, possibly, only things that could have larger readerships would be Lord of the Rings and The Bible.

I'm ashamed that of all of these I've only read Three-Body. I have Dune in the line up and Zones of Thought. I tend to find picking favorites among uniquely good things difficult anyway.
reply
No need to be ashamed. I have not read them all, either. You only have time for that which you can do. All the reading time is subsumed by what you have to do in the real world.
reply
Dune is by far the best!

My favorite also!

It is the elephant in the room, isn’t it?
reply
I like it, too. I tend to feel there is no way to say best because they are all very good at examining different subject matter in slightly different points of view. To say they are all good would work with me.

I mean, Altered Carbon the first season was also incredibly good and finally something different!
reply
Yes, I binge watched the first season but lost it in the second. I always wonder why the second season or movie is usually a bit of a disappointment. They just don’t seem to meet the standards of the first of the series.
