For further reading on this, I also recommend Carl Trueman's The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self. He traces the philosophical roots of this elevation of feelings to identity. It's really a masterpiece of a book, in my opinion.
To elevate emotive suffering to the unverifiable and merely stated felt urge is anti-intellectual, anti-Enlightenment, and totally contrary to all that Western civilization is.
The fascinating thing is that this all came out of Western culture. More specifically, the philosophical roots of the French Revolution and Communism.
Thx, will check it out

dude! I've been looking for who recommended me this book in vain, and today I found it.
Thank you SO MUCH @SimpleStacker! I only made it about 100-150 pages in before I had to shove it into storage (book didn't make the traveling cut) but MY GOD has the content re-wired me brain.
Thanks again
