Murakami Navy may have been either privateers or pirates or something that is between the two. After Toyotomi Hideyoshi took the top of the pre-military government during the warring states period, he made a declaration that the privateers or pirates were to no longer exist. After the Murakami navy lost their mission to guard the ships doing commerce, they were cut loose from all government and were made useless, they broke down and disappeared in 1588 (the no pirates law). So the government’s navy was longer necessary. They had been doing their job for 250 years. The series of generals that were victorious during the warring states period were Nobunaga, Toyotomi and then Tokugawa (he had married Toyotomi’s sister). Nobunaga and Toyotomi crushed the independent kingdoms or provences and Tokugawa Ieyasu formed the Edo bakufu (military government). Tokugawa was held hostage in his younger years in the castle in Shizuoka City (current name).
