I will have to see my notes to look into it more if I remember but I want to say there were areas highlighted to us. The issue was that these areas were things that were not going to result in $$$ so the government had to fund them

I wonder if certain types of projects are inherently more likely to succeed as open-source.

Challenges to funding open source

I think Open Source vs Closed Source is going to be an argument for decades to come. We have covered it on my Committee with NSF Funding, DOE funding, etc
