You have to fast with water for a long time to get there. Some people like doing that, but I don't.
I'm not aware of meditation doing this, but I'm not very knowledgeable about meditation. I know it is supposed to trigger a relaxation response, which is another physiological state.
So many states can be achieve and so many different results. You just have to be brave enough to try them out. And disciplined enough to not break during the hard times.
