I stumbled upon this article https://archive.is/wSz6H and went down the social media about secret elites and stealth wealth.
Not quite sure what to think about it. How much of it is real, how much of it is just paranoia. So what do Stackers think:
How much of the richest people of the world are missing from the Forbes riches people on earth list: https://www.forbes.com/real-time-billionaires/#2dd5ed53d788
none or almost none7.4%
Some up to 50%40.7%
Most48.1%
Almost all are missing3.7%

I personally know a very rich family who I know for a fact has sued Forbes when they were once put on the list.
I know this because I was doing work IT work for the lawfirm that did the suing. As it turns out, in the US lots of this depends on if the person is deemed as a "Public Person" or not.....if a person is classified as "Public" then there is no real privacy awarded to them, whereas if they are "Private" then there are much stricter laws against defamation, etc.
To maintain your status as "Private" you basically need to never issue any public utterances. That means, no interviews, no speeches, no social media, etc. So, it wouldn't surprise me if there were lots and lots of megawealthy who are totally unknown to the general public.

Interesting! Would certainly explain very wealthy people keeping a low profile.

I had never given it much thought. It's an interesting question, though.
There are certainly some bitcoiners missing from those lists (and probably some shitcoiners too).
reply
I believe there are Bitcoiners wha are multi mulit millionaires. But it's hard for me to imagine any of them being on the Forbes list since even simple "only billionaire"s aren't rich enough for that
reply
Fair enough. Assuming Satoshi isn't already on the Forbes list, though, there's at least one secret bitcoiner amongst the worlds' wealthy.

I don't think Satoshis coins are still movable/around.
1m BTC times 100k = 100b.
He would be very rich. But not even in the top 10. It's insane. Just above Mukesh Ambani (who even is that lmao).

Those who like to demonstrate wealth, of course I'm generalizing, are emerging people, that is, less economically favored people who have managed to build their wealth. As for the billionaire families in the West, I believe, they are traditionalists and prefer to remain discreet... a certain restraint is always the wisest thing to influence behind the scenes of power without being noticed.

The problem with that tho is that owning more than 10% of a company has to be filed publicly. And large stock ownerships are published too.
Maybe aristocratic families own lots of small stakes and real estate which makes them crazy rich .... Not getting to world elite Forbes list levels with that tho.
reply
You're right... and yes, I was referring to the aristocratic families with their silent power. I could mention powerful dynasties in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates with their enormous global influence because of Oil, but I didn't mention it because their power is not veiled.

Ever seen the movie Crazy Rich Asians? I grew up around some pretty rich asians. They don't flaunt their wealth like that. Not most of them, anyway.
reply
They're explicitly not secret tho. It's publicly filed who owns Samsung, Sony or Toyota.
There are probably many secretly wealthy multi multi millionaires like you say. They're not world elite Forbes list level tho.
There are many many crazy rich americans too tho. You can own two vacation home mansions and a yacht and still be a total unknown nobody in the US too. Also not world elite level.
reply
Only the public ones are on that list.

IMO the "old money" is not as rich as "new money". It's hard to beat the wealth of literal building Facebook, Tesla or Amazon. And those are all public
reply
I tend to think you're right. I just wonder if there are some Rothschilds or Medici-type families out there that are truly old money that can keep their real wealth off the radar.
reply
Many millionaires remain hidden and Forbes magazine does not publish their numbers, but their wealth is certainly distributed among a few.
