I think the lady boss of 食惠鱼圆面 at Blk 780, Yishun Ring Road coffee shop has got to be the nicest stall holder in Singapore. So nice that I feel compelled to feature her on my blog.
She doesn’t provide mobile payment methods like many stallholders these days. She still implements this old-school reward card system. Buy a $4.50 worth of noodles/porridge for twelve times, and she will gift you one free bowl of noodles.
Actually, I have been too lazy to keep her card in my wallet, but I thought that with the start of a new year, I should exercise patience and do something different.
This is where it gets interesting. She does accept Community Development Council (CDC) vouchers issued by the government. With the provision of the CDC vouchers, this means that my noodles/porridge is FOC. So, redeeming free bowls of noodles for a free 13th bowl sounds like fun. Also, my two bowls (Mee Kia dry + Tom yum noodles) amounted only to $8.80. I let her scan my $10, only to have her return $1.20 as change to me.
This is huge. Not every stallholder is willing to return you change. I know this because I have forfeited the ‘excess’ value on my CDC voucher before. 🤣
Bless her heart. I know her stall survives in this era of soaring expenses. It will give me immense pleasure to learn that my humble blog has helped to put her stall on the collective radar of Singaporeans.
Stretch your CDC vouchers further with 食惠鱼圆面 at Blk 780 Yishun Ring Road.
