While you can't tell from the blog post, most Bambu customers are very upset about this change. I'm not a customer, but it appears they are forcing the 3rd-party software/hardware/accessory ecosystem into something akin to an iOS App Store and framing it as an advance in security.
From some reviews:
They're raising the walls and trying to prevent third party programs and hardware from having access to the printer.
Sadly Bambu are restricting services via firmware updates. I brought a flagship X1C and now they are rolling out restrictions in their updates that limit slicer choice and pre-existing add ons.
Recently, BambuLab has announced they are launching new updates and restrictions, these will lock you into their ecosystem, and prevent you from using other Slicers or tools, which are very essential, and people use them alot.
With the recent announcement, they are locking down ecosystem and introducing predatory actions. Banning and censoring users for discussing it on forums. After this change, users will no longer be able to use third party tools and APIs, which 3D printing is all about. We don't know what will be the next steps, locking down filaments use? Pay per print? No unauthorized upgrades?
Bambulab is pushing an update that will remove functionality used by many of its customers. Functionality that costs them nothing, but restricts any kind of 3rd party software to be used with their printer.
Some are claiming you won't be able to run to run the new firmware offline:
Bambu Labs announces that MY printer in LAN mode will have to authenticate to their Chinese CCP cloud to print.
Most reviewers seem to think profit is the motive, but I wonder if this might have something to do with ghost guns.
