According to Fox Carolina, South Carolina state officials have approved plans for a new wastewater treatment facility in southern Oconee County. The plans were approved Thursday, but have been in the making for 45 years, Fox Carolina reported
Oconee Joint Regional Sewer Authority, which already provides services to multiple towns, will be able to provide water treatment to people in the southern part of the county.
The project, known as the I-85 Corridor Expansion, consists of approximately 8,400 linear feet of gravity sewer, two pump stations, and 16,500 linear feet of force main pipe to serve the areas near exits 1 and 2 on I-85
The OJRSA will begin contacting potential new customers in January
A project of this small of scope must of had some other issues as to why it took 45 years! My guess is either an easement issue meaning they couldn’t get the approval from land owners to encroach the utility on to their land or never enough funding. My guess the 45 year road block finally got lifted and now the design can finally be constructed. I could be way off here but a few miles of sewer mains shouldn’t take 45 years. A civil engineer fresh out of college can design this in about 3 to 6 months TOPS!

The political allocation of resources will never match the market allocation of resources. Neither is perfect but one is much better.
Edit:
Put another way... incentives matter. If you understand bitcoin incentives, you can begin to look at political incentives and the lack of incentives in government. I think you can see what I'm saying.
