That’s what we advocated in Singapore. Asian values and filial piety and all that, conveniently ignoring the fact that Westerners are perfectly willing to take care of their parents.
But some children absolutely refused to care for their parents. To the extent that we now have a Maintenance of Parents Act, in which parents can sue their children in court for not looking after them. It’s embarrassing
this reminds me of the dystopia in Thiland where parents in rural places basically send their kids to be sex workers with the sole goal of milking so they can be paid for. children become the money stream, it's gross.
that being said, in a perfect world, this wouldn't be an issue, children would naturally want to take care of their parents

I hope to save enough for my and my wife’s retirement so that my children won’t have to become members of the sandwiched generation. Wish me luck haha
