I'm hoping ~ai might change this. That's really a vote for more generic tech progress though.
Not for public school students, but it has done absolute wonders for homeschool kids and kids that take the initiative to independently learn outside of school.

Good point. I couldn't find the primary source but I suspect this mostly represents public school kids.

My kids are doing great with all their learning platforms. My daughter has already finished her grade 1 curriculum half way through the school year and my son is doing grade 12 math in grade 9. He is also at least one grade ahead in every other subject. Much smarter than me. Maybe he will work for SN one day.

What was that drug from the movie limitless? That’s the first thing that came to mind but I couldn’t think of the name.
The gummies were @kr’s recipe.

definitely PED for the brain if it's KR's recipe lol
They problem isn't the tech IMO. It might be helpful but the other issues likely offset it. Incentives once again. Politics allocates resources in inferior ways to the market.

It would be interesting to put a vertical line in there for when Common Core rolled out.
reply
Rolled out in the early 2010s, so you may be onto something.
As a parent who has seen common core up close, it is a crime against humanity
reply
Common Core math is awful
I just read about it again... crime against humanity, burn them all!

My dad was mid teaching career when it happened.

Shutting down schools during Covid made students dumber.
I can't believe the teachers unions were wrong!
I can't believe they lied to us!

Some of this seems like a selection effect -- throwing tech at students who are bored, and don't want to be there is unlikely to accomplish much. I wonder if there's a way to control for this?
reply
it's 8th grade math scores since 1990
all the students are bored
