Heard Bill Simmons throw this idea out there on a recent pod. What if Mavs new owners eventually want to own a team in Vegas. Rather than waiting to do an expansion they see the opportunity to buy the Mavs. However in order to move to Mavs to Vegas you need to sever the relationship with the local fan base. I wonder how many Mav fans will continue to support the team after this move…
New Mav owners are big in the Vegas casino scene and a more interesting note is the difference in gambling laws in Texas vs Nevada

Mavs are the 9th most valuable team in the NBA. I don’t see any way the league approves the relocation of a thriving team when they can get expansion $ for a future Vegas team.

Agreed, although essentially baseless still made more sense than the Mavs gm saying the trade was for contending now lol

Honestly I think they were fed up of Luka being out of shape and didn’t want to offer him a super max deal because it would probably only get worse. I just don’t understand why they didn’t try to get more.
