A pretty significant development in the Middle East happened today when Syria moved to clamp down on Hezbollah smuggling routes in their territory. During the firefight that took place Hezbollah captured/kidnapped two Syrian Army fighters and drove them into Lebanon and showed footage of them kicking and beating them. Well Syria responded and Hezbollah continued to try and fight back before the Lebanese government stepped in to get the captured Syrians back to Syria.
Israel took this opportunity to strike several Hezbollah targets in central/eastern Lebanon due to Hezbollah getting caught trying to smuggle stuff into Lebanon which is a violation of the ceasefire. I have to wonder if the Lebanese government is going to finally be able to stand up to Hezbollah given the sheer beating they took from Israel and if so can they establish security for not only itself but Israel and Syria or if those two countries will have to keep getting involved.
