pull down to refresh

In todays day and age it is refreshing to see athletes discuss the mental health aspect of their sports. I am not sure if anyone saw the two crashes she had last season but they were both bad. The first one kept her out for 6 weeks while the second one almost ended not only her career but her life.
In the second crash at Killington she was stabbed by something (it was never figured out what stabbed her) and it nearly punctured her abdominal wall and her colon. It was millimeters away from catastrophic damage (arteries) but still caused severe trauma to her oblique muscles (details about what have never been discussed publicly but it was known to be bad and something that was going to take a long time to heal).
Personally I could not imagine having a crash like the second on and then strapping in to go over 100 km/hr (80 km/hr is roughly 50 mph so you are going around the speed of a car on a highway). The mental block that she must be facing has to be incredibly hard. Hopefully she takes care of herself and we see her soon participating in all the skiing events she used to like GS.
My wife and I had a debate about which is more dangerous: skiing or scuba diving.
What do you think the answer is?

I feel like it is going to be whatever you are more scared of. If you have a fear of drowning then it will be scuba or if you fear dying slowly since with scuba that can happen as well. With skiing I mean so much of the deadly things seem to be things that happen quickly so here one minute gone the next.

Turns out skiing is more dangerous in terms of injuries but scuba is more dangerous in terms of mortality. Makes sense when you think about it.
I've also seen some videos on scuba diving accidents... it can be very scary what can happen to you when diving

No surprise after that second fall. All this athletes know there are physical risks but when you come a millimeter from dying it is a major wake up call. That is much harder to get over than the broken bones and other injuries.

110% agree. I was shocked to see she is still going to compete in Slalom though... I mean it is slower but people still push it and crash all the time. Thoughts are with her though cause those types of demons are so hard to concur

Might be a good way for her to work back into it.
