In todays day and age it is refreshing to see athletes discuss the mental health aspect of their sports. I am not sure if anyone saw the two crashes she had last season but they were both bad. The first one kept her out for 6 weeks while the second one almost ended not only her career but her life.
In the second crash at Killington she was stabbed by something (it was never figured out what stabbed her) and it nearly punctured her abdominal wall and her colon. It was millimeters away from catastrophic damage (arteries) but still caused severe trauma to her oblique muscles (details about what have never been discussed publicly but it was known to be bad and something that was going to take a long time to heal).
Personally I could not imagine having a crash like the second on and then strapping in to go over 100 km/hr (80 km/hr is roughly 50 mph so you are going around the speed of a car on a highway). The mental block that she must be facing has to be incredibly hard. Hopefully she takes care of herself and we see her soon participating in all the skiing events she used to like GS.
