Every time someone begs me for money, a part of me thinks: "Fuck you, pay me"
I'm guessing you've gone through periods living off of very little money.

I was nearly broke once and could only afford to fly home because the lady at the counter noticed my desperation and waived some fees. I think that counts. 👀

Yeah, my attitude toward "the poor" became much less sympathetic after being quite poor myself as a young adult.

I just don't trust that poor people are actually poor.
Here in Europe, they are just trying to make you feel guilty and in the evening you see them walking around with friends. I don't know, it just feels like some scheme.
In the states, the beggars are at least intimidating haha

+1000 on guilt-trippers, bro it's so bad when even your own friends would eventually ask for money. They have the money and it feels like you said, a scheme to not spend their own money because you're there. But when I was super poor I never had the courage to even think of asking for money, why would anyone feel comfortable doing so?

I would be much more sympathetic if they asked for food or water.
Maybe I should do a test: give that one old lady I always see (including when she's walking around with others in the evening) some food and water next time and see how she reacts. 🤔
They are intimidating, but many are also faking it.
