L0la is shitting on Yanis Varoufakis (the former Greece finance minister, most known for shitting on capitalism), who ostensibly read the FT feature on bitcoin this week (#883541).

That's nice. Yanis should read that.

...unfortunately, and for pretty standard left-wing reasons, it isn't receptive to it. Oddly, one would think, given the ways we can spin bitcoin for good, lefty ideals (Jason Maier, Troy Cross etc).

So L0la tells him off for it. And gooood:

I wonder if @ yanisvaroufakis knows how many of us agree with him on this – and, ironically, how much of it is the fault of people like Yanis, who consistently chose to attack the only global, stateless money in the world, instead of seeing it as a more equitable alternative for the millions excluded from and discriminated against in the current financial system

And this: "A strategic reserve does not make bitcoin useful. Institutional adoption does not make bitcoin useful. What makes bitcoin useful is using it, and by literal design: the more you participate in the network, the more influence you have."And this:
"A strategic reserve does not make bitcoin useful. Institutional adoption does not make bitcoin useful. What makes bitcoin useful is using it, and by literal design: the more you participate in the network, the more influence you have."

and definitely this:

Knee-jerk hatred/opposition to all things bitcoin will be the greatest (of many) errors the left ever made.

Even the chaos computer club, a left leaning cryptography and hacker community is against Bitcoin...

Ideologies are stronger than reasoning

It's also been demonstrated that smarter people are actually more set in their ideology because they're better at self justifying

ccc is a perfect example of leftists FOSS culture echo chamber

People here probably don't want to hear it but the original communities around Linux, Tor, PGP etc were also leftists

🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

reply

I know that the Linux developers had a leftist idea set. Didn't know that about Tor

let them eat CAKE!

Everyone gets bitcoin at the price they deserve. The left is going to get it really hard.

reply

The left can steal bitcoin at any price, that's their plan

reply

Correction: The left can try to steal bitcoin at any price.

reply

I guess so.

Doesn't really trouble me.

reply

It's mostly troubling because they're the spiteful, envious, violent redistributionists.

reply

that so?? Tell us how you really feel!

reply

I mean, they're not quite as bad as Boomers, but they're not a distant second either.

reply

Its true.

reply

Yep. They won't get it but they will have to use it. Most people don't get fiat but have to use it.

reply

The wars, revolutions and even the smallest of our homely disputes arise out of differences in ideology. So, the differences in ideology are good. This is right vs wrong or good vs bad but these are essential. Let's not forget the left is there to oppose the right. But inside there can be many who know what's better.

reply

That's not why.

It's simple: certain political movements and factions cannot operate on a populace of free people. If people have financial freedom, certain political movements wilt on the vine. "The left" happens to be dominated by these types of movements as of late. Those kinds of movements are fundamentally authoritarian in nature.

I don't think you're wrong, really, but plenty of Bitcoiners do
