If Bitcoin never happened would there be any kind of fucked up form of “crypto coins” or “crypto money” in the market to a similar degree as there is now? I understand that cypherpunks would still be doing the “divine work” but would there be any form of mainstream public adoption at this point?
No - they are all dependent or started out dependent on Bitcoin's invention.
I also have a feeling that if Bitcoin fails so will all these other projects, because it seems to me they mostly survive on Bitcoin's halo.

An energy based monetary system for humanity it was not optional. It would happen sooner or later no matter what, is like the discovery of the fire, the wheel or the invection of the steam machinery.
