  3. Select Transactions: From the pool of unconfirmed transactions
  4. Create coinbase Tx
  5. Constructing Merkle Trees
  6. Hashing for the Block Solution 7.1. If success, submit the block
Hashing Process:
  1. Only Hash

But yeah, obviously mining != hashing. People selling their hash are operating as economic creatures, following incentives. C'est la vie.
Definitely good to have guides available for people that want to go deeper.

Of course it's indirect mining. But people are trying to make a point by calling it ONLY "hashing" with air quotes

from a complete layman: What is the chance of a miner getting the 3btc reward? Is the power of the machine still a differentiator for this?

The chance is, in theory, <your hashrate> in <network hashrate>. But remember that both are approximations and each can be lucky or even have luck streaks, so its never a given.
