No surprise here. Just another example of the incompetence of the Blue Jays front office. They knew what he wanted. They should have signed him last offseason or traded him rather than trying to fool fans into thinking they were a contender.

What do you think he could get? I could see him easily becoming the latest player to overplay his hand. He started off fantastic but has kinda petered off to being good not great and his name seemed to carry him more than anything.

He will get 500M in FA if he has another great year this year.
I think it is far too much but top end young talent is getting paid a fortune.
I think the variance between him and Jays is quite wide. He wants 450M and they were offering 350M. So unless he has a bad year 450M will be the starting point and if a few big spenders get in a bidding war I could see it reaching 500M.

danggggggg I did not have him remotely near that number lol! I do get what you said though with a good season. Looking at his career his war is
2019 - 2.1 2020 - 0.6 2021 - 6.7 2022 - 4.0 2023 - 2.0 2024 - 6.2
I figure he can have a war of 4.5ish and he could make $400 mil but if he regresses like he seems to do... very up and down career looking at it... he would need to sign a Bregman type deal

It's a fair point. He has been inconsistent. He has had a couple years where he is playing at a near MVP level but a couple years where he was just an above average player.
It's a risk for him. If he has a monster year he will make a boatload but if he has a bad season or gets hurt he might not even hit that 350M the Jays offered him.

Yeah its why if he doesnt perform I could see him settling for a $40+ mil a year contract with opt outs after each season to better set himself up
