We want more energy out of it than it costs energy to start it up, that's true. If it runs 24/7 one day we will get more energy out of it than we put in.
Maybe need to look at the thermodynamics. Time while important isn’t telling the entire story

You're very smug while seemingly knowing little about the topic. There is no issue with the fundamental laws of thermodynamics. If there was, the sun couldn't exist.

I didn’t say anything about the laws. I said just mentioning time is misleading. Biggest issue with fusion is the amount of start up energy needed to get it started and to keep it cold is enormous that is why it’s been fleeting humanity’s grasp for decades

I think you guys are talking past each other. You're both right.
Up-time is meaningless if almost no energy is being produced.
But I think @zuspotirko 's point is that, even if the energy output is tiny, if it can be sustained 24/7 we have unlimited energy. This is true no matter how small the output number is.
It's like the concept of limits in calculus. When something is approaching infinity, it may as well just be considered infinity for all intents and purposes.
