OK, since I'm the voice of chess = sports (#853488, #881533) over here, let me just express my sincere surprise when I opened JRE tonight for something to lazily watch before bed.
On a nice, wonderful summer's eve over two years ago(!), I remember listening to Carlsen on Lex Fridman's show, and remember thinking it was both wonderful and a tad odd... not really used to hearing him talk so flowy about chess, and in long-form. That line about the creative tension between the bishop and the knight ("There is a creative tension between the bishop and the knight. 'They are almost equally strong with such different qualities') stuck with me ever since.
Didn't think more of it, and while guests tend to sort of make the podcasting rounds in close proximity to one another it wouldn't have been weird for the GOAT to do JRE afterwards.
Alas, not. And we had to wait 2.5 years for it!
Man, can't wait!

Also, I haven't watched the episode yet; don't spoil too much in the comments!
I'm completely fine with considering chess as a sport, although I'm an esport enjoyer, so take that with a grain of salt.
Either way, watching anyone who is the best at something compete is pretty entertaining to me.

Agreed being the best is special even if it’s basket weaving
