The reason I ask is because Europe and the UK liberal is closer to libertarian than it is socialist. At least historically. They were the laissez-faire free market people as opposed to the leftist socialist or the conservatives which were actually conservative(IE valued traditional national pride and often monoarchy). In this US liberal is more of left wing economic intervention happy big gov types.
