I don't have a whole lot to add. I find it hard to believe people would consider Elon stupid and that the author feels it necessary to take anyone seriously that did.
I understand there's partisan hate for Elon, and I get that he's duplicitous at levels mostly proportional to his wealth and agency (king kong takes bigger smellier shits), but he is undeniably one of the most entrepreneurially industrious and generative people alive, right?

Great read. Living daily in a progressive environment where Musk's flaws as a human are constantly highlighted, this was a good and refreshing reminder of the many things he has accomplished despite or thanks to his unique character.

Reading the comments are pretty interesting too. The top one chastises Musk for not doing more for charity.
But when I thought about other billionaires who give a lot to charity, like Bill Gates, and asked myself whether I'd rather Musk use his time, money, and energy on things like SpaceX and DOGE vs. what Bill Gates does, I realized that I'd rather Elon just do what he's doing. I think Space Exploration and Government Efficiency are more "under-provided" than international aid.
And maybe that's one of the things Elon is good at: looking around and seeing what's not being worked on that should be.

He is not stupid, definitely not. He is not the sharpest pencil in the case either. I don’t think he has a problem with intellect, but he has a huge problem with character, and he is a sociopath.

Musk is a bonafide genius in his field of entrepreneurship!! It seems he cannot be beat at those tasks he takes up. I think he only takes up tasks that he can foresee that his special inputs would make a huge difference in the outcomes of his actions. He seems to fit the pieces of the puzzles together as one big gestalt that he sees with just a glance and can understand the pathway to best results. He is great as an entrepreneur!!
On the other hand, how is he as a bureaucrat? Bureaucracy is a whole different approach to life and tasks than entrepreneurship, isn’t it? As of now, I see him applying entrepreneurial skills to the bureaucracy which may be, perhaps, the wrong tools to apply in that situation. I have no doubt that he will learn the bureaucratic methods and tools quickly and apply them in the best manner possible, if he isn’t sidetracked by the opposing forces of the previous powers. I say we should give him a lot more time to see how he handles his change in environment and situation. Can he make the meaningful, permanent changes necessary?

Elon is exceptional. He makes things and fixes things...he adds real value.
Sad that he is exceptional because the west once built its wealth and power upon engineering- building things- today the neoliberal legacy of financialisation has made bankers and other parasites the new godkings.
China has made its advance because China understands and celebrates ENGINEERING! 80% of the CCP poliburo are trained ENGINEERS. And so China has won the trade war because it has learned how to build things- certainly a lot of its production is based upon copy and pasting western designs- but meanwhile the west forgot the importance of ENGINEERING.
Today a Chinese French consortium is building the UKs first new nuclear power station for decades- this is fucking humiliating- the Brits have lost the ability to build. Europe is screwed.
Elon reminds us of the importance of engineering and building useful things for the world.

Of course he is smart.
The problem I have with him that he seems to be emotionally immature. Which might be dangerous when paired with being smart.

Right. I do think people wanna believe he only is where he is because of buying existing companies but that's very illogical. Some people are successful by founding but others by growing and building on a good idea. Musk is no dummy. Many discount his success due to the government subsidies but few of his peers are without state benefits to their endeavors. At best he is guilty of using the system to his advantage. I'm no fan and you can say a lot about him with merits but he's far from incompetent. What we are witnessing now is another piece of evidence in his high competence in running circles around the opposition to Trump.
Its clear that the anti Trump establishment is trying to pit the two against each other. All the calls to him as co-president are clearly designed to anoy Trump. It's all very fascinating to watch.
