This video of a Chinese fleet off of the coast of Argentina been making the rounds on twitter... China is overfishing international waters without regard for local fishing industries and ecosystems... and it seems nothing can be done about it?
This is a global scale tragedy of the commons where one player has all of the military power...
Not taking side with China but when the states cared for others?
reply
They're paroling the border between Argentinian water and international waters. This is clearly an act of aggression.

Example of why the nation state and its power projection capacity is crucial to the wealth of nations.
For centuries the west has dominated global resource hegemony, enslaving, raping and pillaging the resources and cultures of all others.
Now China has the economic might and growing military capability to challenge western imperialism- cue incensed righteous bleating duplicity from wealthy westerners.
US citizens on average emit 170 x more GHGs than citizens of Afghanistan...because US imperialism dominates global resource allocation and the monetary system via the petrodollar.
Libertarians believe free markets solve all problems - the truth is the nation state and its ability to project power is an equally significant factor.
In international waters there are no legal restrictions on fishing and for decades the Russians, Koreans, Japanese and others have plundered international fish stocks.

Everyone's doing it. Its not about China alone. USA,UK,Ger,Fra,Rus all been doing whatever they can or whatever they want without caring much for the ecosystem or the rest of the developing world.
Even if sanctions or laws were made, they would be to stop the under-developed world to reach there, instead stopping the so called developed world with all the money and power.
Ever head of UN?
reply
No, it's China alone. The chineese fleet on the borders of Argentinian waters can be seen from space. Other countries do fishing too but not at this scale and not with the intent of stipping the ocean clean of life.
reply
nothing can be done about it
what about torpedos?

haha I’m sure China would love an excuse to shore the world who the real number 1 military power in the world is.
They would quickly annihilate any country outside of the US

Today China builds almost half of new global shipping capacity.
The US builds less than 1%.
China has won the trade war and all nations must trade with them or suffer real economic disadvantage.
The era of US/western global resource hegemony is in decline.
Trumps desperate and illegal tariffs, tariffs threats and bullying and giving Putin Ukraine territory is concrete evidence of this.

China has never cared about anyone else other than themselves.

They learned a lot from the Opium Wars.

One feature I really love about twitter- the little grok integration button that explains to you the meaning of a post so I don’t have to expose my ignorance and ask “what was the lesson there?”

Selfishness is not a good trait and this is so selfish. No consideration for others and eco system

yeah it makes me sad.
Europe over there committing economic seppuku for Greta meanwhile China is 10x undoing any incremental benefit.

They show zero fucks for anyone else

Trumps abandoning the Paris accords and the global consensus to respond to the reality of climate change shows zero fucks for everyone else.
reply
Yes this is also a bit of that . Too many countries only looking for themselves
reply
It's not even selfish. Stripping the ocean clean of life does bring them little benefit. But it hurts Philippines and Argentias fishing industry. The incentives wouldn't exist without the CCPs aggression.
