Best Selling Whiskey ≠ Best Whiskey

reply

Agreed. My personal favorite brand is Kavalan from Taiwan, but their whiskies tend to be a bit on the pricey side. I visited their distillery in Taiwan back in 2023, really cool place.

Nikka from Japan makes some good ones too. Their cask strength whisky Nikka from the Barrel is one of my goto.

reply

Nice. I haven't tried Whiskey from Taiwan before. I'll have to put Kavalan on my list.

reply

Not a single good one in the list

reply

JD is cool, can't imagine rock'n'roll without it.

reply

Unfortunately for me....the first thing I threw up on when I was a teen was JD and it really soured me on Bourbon / Tennessee Whiskey....thats pretty much why I went to Scotch in college.

Its only been in the past decade that I started trying it again and really like lots of it.

reply

I had opposite experience - everybody was drinking Tullamore and other cheap whiskeys, so I though that I don't like whiskey at all. Then I tried Jack Daniel's and understood that not every single one of them are shit.

reply

I drank plenty of Johnny Walker Red / Dewars in my college days....never really got into many of the others. But yea, typical "most popular" list

reply

Johnny Walker blue doesn't taste as good as it used to

plus they got rid of the casket!

reply

I actually think Black is decent. Obviously no real depth of flavor and pretty thin but "decent" for a blended. I like to make highballs (scotch and sparkling water) with it.

My fav blended is Sheep Dip though....

reply

I was completely unaware of Indian whiskeys until about 4 years ago when I started to try them.

One of my new fav whiskeys is Amrut Fusion (called Fusion since it contains both Indian Barley mixed with Scottish). Its really good, mildly peated with a rich evolving taste....

reply

I was about to say some of the famous ones from scotland arent on here, but they are classified as scotch.

reply

I guess single malt Scotch is not so popular or there are so many brands
