I think there's something to that.

Before, all the kids would just go outside, without a plan, and other kids would be there already doing stuff, and things would happen.

Now they stay inside unless there's a plan. So I guess you're right, sports and other activities like that make sense if they won't "just go outside and see"

There was magic in "just going outside and seeing" though.. shame.
