Some work days are just meh. Yesterday was one of those days. Although I only had 5 teaching periods, I accomplished nothing important because my ignition costs were too great. By the time I had gotten everything ready and settled down, it was time to go for my class. I also had some anxiety about making a dental appointment.
So, today felt amazing by comparison. To the extent that I checked out my perfect work day post from last year. But I think the elements that constituted today’s feel-good day are different from the ingredients that motivated me to write last year’s post.

Awards Day is fast approaching, and I spent yesterday afternoon going over the emcee script with my student emcees. To my horror, I realised that my student speaks less clearly than I expected. He consistently omits the plural marker. Anyway, there is no time to waste, so I spent the first teaching period with him getting him to recite his lines and trimming them to be powerful like a bonsai horticulturalist. If he doesn’t have to struggle over long sentences and polysyllabic words, he can lean into his strengths, which are a pleasant tone and a bright smile. Here’s hoping that I whip him into shape in time for the actual Awards Day.

Found some time to make some changes for the upcoming Mid-Year exams. Was in a good frame of mind and really deliberated over my choice of words. Even provided value-added service by providing the rationale for my test items as comments on the Word document.

Found 15 mins to declutter my ever messy table and key in the content to beef up my Prefixes and Suffixes post. It’s just a few pieces of paper, but I feel ridiculously lighter.

Wrote an email to my school principal to request for funding for two of my students who haven’t managed to submit their financial assistance scheme forms yet. She replied almost instantly. I’m hopeful that they will get the help they need.

Shamelessly shared my Perplexity Pro post on a FB personal finance group. Currently generated 4 cents so far. I’m glad to have found the time to work on my passion project!
To sum it up, today’s elements of a great work day include:
-
advancing towards my personal goal (withdraw $150 from Google Adsense in my lifetime)
-
seeking help for my students
-
clearing work-related tasks
-
decluttering my table
Sensei is happy.
