The Washington Post is trying to better answer that question by conducting quick polls, in which we text about 1,000 Americans after a breaking news event and publish their answers within 24 to 36 hours.
TLDR: People approve/disapprove around 50/50 with slightly more people disapprove. The tariffs on Mexico and Canada is more unpopular than the strategy of tariffs more generally. The most divergence is about concern for the consequences: 75% are concerned. In other words: It's not at all a rare combination to approve of the strategy despite being concerned about the consequences. I find this quite striking.
I don't trust the opinions of anyone who would respond to a text from the Washington Post

I think the general point is I wouldn't really trust the opinions of those who respond to news organization surveys. I wouldn't trust people who respond to Fox News texts either.

But not the readership

I'm pretty sure tariffs being awful economic policy is a fairly well established theory.
I definitely haven't heard anything convincing to the contrary.
Better less rules and taxes on international trade provided trade partners compete for their mutual benefit on roughly equal footing.
Canada and Mexico seem like examples of good trade partners.
What's the point of tariffs anyway? I could understand against countries that have really crappy environmental policy for example.

This is expected as most people just repeat what they hear from talking heads, and what the talking heads are saying is a proxy for how disruptive a certain thing is to globalist financiers
What's more interesting is how many people I generally consider not to be retards on Xitter can't think strategically more than 5 minutes out and see through the fud

The last graph is certainly interesting 👌
Tariffs, in my opinion, are something that is driving and creating chaos in the elites and governments at the top...
