Just had an idea💡 while the team and I work on our orange pilling 🍊💊 web app - https://lgt.st/bitcoindinners
I have been trying to test the app with friends and yesterday I planned with a group of them to go eat and have drinks at a restaurant that accepts bitcoin Hometown Barbecue (according to https://btcmap.org & https://www.ibexpay.io/pay-locations) unfortunately it didn't go well according to the plan. You order the food up front so I asked the cashier if they accepted bitcoin and she got extremely flustered said no and I asked if she could check in with her manager but nada -
It could possibly be that the owner did decided add bitcoin payments but did not properly train their employees on how to use it, could be the case it could not.
Even though the plan didn't go as planned my nocoiner friends asked if we could try another place next weekend and to make sure we call ahead of time and let the business know that a big group of people want to eat at the restaurant but only want to pay with bitcoin.
So after this whole experience, I started thinking.. what if we all started planning these types of dinners or outings with our close friends, picking a specific location, making sure ahead of time they do accept bitcoin, and heading out for a fun night with everyone with the goal of everyone to experience paying with bitcoin.
If you are the only bitcoiner in the group, you will be responsible for collecting their dirty fiat and sending them sats so they can pay for their dinner using their LN Wallets. This is where Lightsats can help by onboarding each user right on the spot or you could just ask them to download a wallet of your choice. Ideally, if you break up the bill per couple or individual, everyone will get to experience of paying for their own bill with bitcoin, instead of you collecting all the payment and paying it all at once.
For me, since I use Strike, it's extremely easy to deposit fiat and automatically convert it to sats once I send them out to them.
So this full experience will not only be good for your nocoiner friends to make the connection of paying with bitcoin but also extremely beneficial and encouraging for the restaurant to receive a big group of people that came into the restaurant solely for the reason of paying with bitcoin. And while we are at it, maybe the bill/payments they received via bitcoin could be the highest they have gotten in a single day and will keep them encouraged to continue accepting it and promoting it..
Thoughts?
like a cash mob for bitcoin. #satswarm

Right on🤘🏼🧡⚡️
Would be awesome to start a movement like this!

This is how revolutions happen! I love this idea so much.
It doesn't even have to be a friends & family thing. I can imagine venues doing Bitcoin Night events, where everything is 20% off when paying in Bitcoin, and someone is there to help anyone easily convert fiat to Sats.
Once businesses learn how to use their own node with BTC Pay Server, and the people learn to use Lightning wallets..... it will start to spread and click in their minds.
Another advantage is, people who are onboarded with Lightning FIRST are going to already be inoculated against the FUD in crypto-land about Bitcoin being slow and inefficient.

Now we're talking 🔥🔥
My cousin works with a lot of music festivals here in Miami and I was actually thinking of talking to him to see how we could incorporate something like that in one of the events, have the vendors participate and accept bitcoin and you have people dedicating to exchanging their fiat for sats!
I heard someone talk about a festival type of event they were doing in Colorado where each participant would get a wristband with NFC and sats get loaded on there and people can just tap their wristband and pay for things, I found this pretty freaking cool but I don't know the name of the event.
Also what you say about onboarding people right through Lightning is really the way to go, getting the full FUD of bitcoin not being used for transactions right out the door.
I'd love to have you test our web app which onboards nocoiners right to Lightning via a self-onboarding guides, we still have lots of work to do since the project is only 4 weeks old🐣
If you want follow our account @lightsats send me a DM and I'll send you a tip/gift so you can experience the full onboard flow. If I add the link here someone will snatch it way before you get to see this message.. haha

I'm embarrassed to say.... but I can't figure out how to send a DM on SN. How bout DM's over LN like Sphinx Chat or Cups Messenger? I've been looking for excuses to use those apps on my node for a while.
Nevertheless, I'm over here checking out your lightsats web app and loving it. Good for no coiners to get a start. Is that the original motivation behind its creation?

You can’t DM on SN, let’s do Sphinx🎉
I had tried to set it up long time ago and never worked and never had the opportunity of testing it!

I haven't used Sphinx yet either, but I've been looking for an excuse to test it out! I just set it up on my node and I sent you a test message. You get it?

Thanks for sharing Soon it won't be dificult to implement lightning

You’re welcome!
Yes as our community continues building new products and tools it will become a lot easier for businesses to implement it.
For now we have to keep doing our part supporting those who have taken the leap🧡

Let me try to shed some light on Businesses, so often when a restaurant owner is orange-pilled to accept LN WITHOUT being a Bitcoiner themselves ...here is what happened:
  • The LN company does the work (infrastructure and all) and trains the staff/manager
  • since the owner is interested in Fiat then there is no education to staff and they wont encourage their customers to pay in LN
  • Bitcoiners themselves arent pushing restaurants to accept sats (simply ask anywhere you go if they accept btc regardless of the response .... its touch points what matters
  • owners have difficulty converting sats to fiat (current LN infrastructure companies are working on solutions so its still early stage).
Note: wherever i go, even in a land of no-coiners I make it a point if they accept btc ... response can be from what is btc, or a laughter or being ridiculed........all is fine and is good :)

I love this idea!
I did something similar for pizza day this year. I just wanted to eat pizza and spend bitcoin with my friends but nowhere would accept so we did our own pop-up!
