The great French economist Frédéric Bastiat wrote that we should not look just at the visible results of government economic intervention, but also the good things that the intervention keeps from happening. Trump’s tariffs are a good example.

I've read something by economist Frédéric Bastiat...
His position is interesting 👌 And I think we should give a little tolerance to the measures to see if they end up being positive!

Under all circumstances, Bastiat's seen vs unseen is important to keep in mind, but the existence of unseen costs does not imply net negativity.
If all we get are the tariffs, then I'm confident it will be a net negative. However, if tariffs are part of broader tax reform that reduces current taxes, then I'll be very open-minded.
