checking out mastadon. got onto two servers.
mind blown.
Why two servers?
The whole point of federation was that you could be on any one server and follow users from any other server and reply / DM / etc regardless of what server they were on.
Anyway, that "mind blown" phase will wear off. Censorship still happens. There are blocklists. Your server might even block BitcoinHackers.org, denying you from even seeing the discussions occurring there.
Personally, have high hopes for nostr, but Twitter is horrible (yes, it still is) so any migration away -- even if to the flawed design of Mastodon, I see that as a positive move, for now.

i was on mastodon.social already and i also joined androiddev.social
i join multiple servers as each server feels like a subreddit. on android dev.social - my toots will get more visibility when users click on their local server timeline to see all toots on that server.

Blocklists aren't censorship tho.
Imagine you're on nyc timesquare and holding a speech. Censorship would be police emprisoning you or putting tape on your mouth. A blocklist is the equivalent of people not listening and going away. That's not censorship.
reply
When the Mastodon server I am on has blocked your server (likely automatically using a shared blocklist), I will not see your toots (posts), and you will not see mine.
That most certainly is censorship (by the admin of my Mastodon server that I am using).

lmao you said it yourself out loud that we're talking about private citizens. Private humans can do whatever they want, everything else is communism 😂😂
reply
I think you are confusing the concept of "free speech" with the concept of censorship. It doesn't have to be a government that engages in censorship for it to be called censorship.
Yes, an admin of a Mastodon server has the right to do that. So they have not violated my right to free speech. But they have engaged in censorship, and when that occurs I begin to take steps to discontinue my support.

you're confusing it lmao 😂😂

You say thank you for 100 sats. You must be new here, haha
Here, have a head start
reply
yo brother.
did you just give me 1000 sats :)
1000 sats are 17 in my currency - i can get myself a snack by commenting in here :)
wtf :)
on a different note - getting sats makes me wanna build an app similar to stacker.news so other people can experience the magic.
wonder which tutorials i need to do to code with LN
maybe should start reading mastering bitcoin.
Thanks again for the sats. Many Thanks.
reply
Haha, you made me double check how much 1000 sats is worth in my currency. That's 0,20€. Not sure what I can buy with 0,20€ here, maybe a bubble gum, lol
Just want to spread the love since I stacked a lot more sats on here than I ever expected :)

Where are you from if I may ask? :)

Yeah, for technical knowledge I can recommend "Mastering Bitcoin". Then you can start reading "Mastering the Lightning Network".
I started coding LN stuff with LNbits. It's custodial but it's great for a start :) Will run a LN node myself soon.
reply
thanks, will soon start with tutorials.
i am from india.
minimal snacks start at 14 inr
1000 sats is 17 inr right now.
:)
reply
Ah, a fellow Indian, funny. My parents are from India, too, but I was raised in Germany :)
reply
ah cool.
i was referring to samosa :)
reply
One samosa is 14 inr?? Two samosa at a restaurant cost 5,90€ here. That's 14,750 sats per piece, lol
I knew it's a scam but didn't think that it would be that much of a scam.
However, one naan costs 1,90€. That's 9,500 sats. I think that's okay.
Which servers did you join?
reply
mastodon.social androiddev.social
reply
followed you on mastodon.
reply
Haha, thanks. Followed you back. My account on bitcoinhackers was just approved yesterday (after a looong waiting time) so I don't know yet if I'll be active on mastodon or not. Most likely just lurking.
