At the end of the day Rodon hasnt been great for the Yankees. He has been okay but given he signed a 6 year $162 million contract and his results are a 19-17 record with a 4.74 ERA in 46 starts. The Yanks just spent $218 million on Fried so he would seem to be the easy go to.
Maybe they don’t want Fried’s first Yankee appearance to be at home opening day.
I would rather start Fried. Rodon is inconsistent. I don’t think you show him that level of respect when you have a better option.

Honestly that’s the only thing I can think of is they are trying to lessen pressure… but if Rodon gets shelled then that idea dies

Rodon seems to be the most built up of their 5.
Rodon is generally okay if they can get him out of there after 4 innings.
