An wishful idea I've had floating in my head for a while, is that when you write a nix package, you specify the URL that the program you want to install is hosted at as well as the programs hash.

So the idea, is if you could specify a torrent link instead, it would remove reliance on github

You still need a website to retrieve the nix install file itself anyway so exactly how resilient this method would be is a bit questionable maybe but I do think it would be a step in the right direction.
