Don't get confused. This is nothing to do with the Champions League. This is a fairly recent tournament that UEFA made up a few years ago. It involves national teams who fights for the title, which will be played later this year in June.
This week will hold the QF in two legs, home and away.
Last night, Spain got a draw (2-2) in the extra time against the Netherlands. Merino, Arsenal player, got an equalizer at 93 minutes. Earlier, Nico Williams, for Spain, and Gapko and Reijnders, for the Netherlands scored the other goals. The second leg will be played on Sunday. Interestingly, Huijsen, 19 year-old Bournemouth centre back, made his debut as a Spanish player against his father country. His family moved to Malaga, south of Spain, when he was a boy and has chosen Spain to play.
Mbappé's France lost away against Modric's Croatia. Budimir and Perisic scored for the Croatians, who are still led by the Real Madrid's midfielder at his 39 years.
Germany won 2-1 their match against Italy and are favorites to go through to the final four in June, as they play in Germany on Sunday.
Finally, Denmark beat Portugal 1-0 and gets the lead in the tie. As a fun fact, the Danish scorer copied Cristiano Ronaldo's celebration. He later said that it was his idol as a child and was not mocking him. Hojlund is 22 and Cristiano is 40. You can see the age difference.
As I said before, second leg matches will be played on Sunday, March 23rd at 8:45 PM CET. The four winning teams will play the final four in June, in a place still to be confirmed.
