[Yishun’s Resident Rooster]
I don’t know if there is an integration program going on at Yishun, but we have plenty of wild chickens strutting about their business these days.
Upon seeing it yesterday, the gutsy younger sister chased after it with reckless abandon, while her more cautious brother followed hesitantly behind. One thing’s for sure - I never expected to be chasing a rooster in hyper urbanised Singapore. I’m glad my children got to experience this slice of life that is typical of kampong (village) life.
Of course, I’m nothing but strategic, so I tested my boy about the number of stages in the life cycle of a chicken. ICYMI, the humble chicken is one of 7 animals that is featured in our primary school Science syllabus. He answered pretty confidently, “egg, chick, adult”. It doesn’t seem like much, but I have been using the term “adult” intensively these few weeks. So, if he rattles it off without hesitation, the credit is mine!

It is fascinating to see them enjoy their children ... My daughter has recently been playing the hunter, when you see birds in the park tries to approach as if it were a stealthy cat to catch them hahahaa 🤣 Obviously fails, the birds are cunning.
And he asks me?
Dad, why can't I catch birds? Or should I train to be faster and catch them? 😅
Obviously I mentioned that you should not catch birds, unless you need it to feed, there if we could hunt it. But as that was not his case, he didn't have to do it.
And finally added, which was right, if she trained more, she could catch those birds if she wanted, if I really did many things, be more agile and more capable.

Did the rooster wake you up too early and you decided to hunt it down?

I wanted it for dinner, honestly.
