it’s hard to teach students how to answer inference questions. that’s why I thought I would write short prose to get my students to practice. you can try it for yourself too!
Samy was auditioning for the Shine Platform. Although the Drama Room was air-conditioned, he was sweating profusely. He still tried his best to perform the dance steps. However, Mr Danny later told him that he had failed the audition.
Question: Why did Samy fail the audition?
Use the formula What I Read + What I Know = Answer to formulate an answer to this inferential question
What I read: Samy was auditioning for the Shine Platform. Although the Drama Room was air-conditioned, he was sweating profusely. He still tried his best to perform the dance steps. However, Mr Danny later told him that he had failed the audition.
What I know: Auditions are notoriously nepotistic. Mr Danny probably already had someone in mind. The audition was just a formality. He probably turned the AC down to make the room warm and throw Samy off his game.
Why did Samy fail the audition?
Because Mr Danny already had someone in mind for the role. The excuse that was given was that Samy didn't dance well and was sweating too much. But the real reason is that he never had a chance to begin with.
