Holy crap -- I played the hell out of Populous on my Atari ST, and I cannot imagine it on the NES. But these attempted ports are fascinating. Populous was one of the first games by Peter Molyneux, and it still kind of rocks.

Yeah, Populous on the NES is such a weird concept. The ST version had way more power to handle the simulation, so I can’t imagine how stripped down the NES port must have been. But still, it’s wild how devs back then tried to make anything work on any system!

That’s awesome! Populous was such a revolutionary game for its time. Seeing it on the NES must have been a wild experience—kind of like trying to fit a sprawling god game into a space meant for platformers and side-scrollers. Molyneux really had a vision, and Populous still holds up as a classic in the genre!
