On May 30, 2010, a huge sinkhole measuring approximately 20 meters in diameter and 90 meters deep formed in Zone 2 of Guatemala City, swallowing a three-story factory. The sinkhole was caused by a combination of factors, including heavy rains caused by Tropical Storm Agatha, the eruption of the Pacaya volcano, and leaking sewage pipes that weakened the ground. Despite the magnitude of the disaster, only one fatality was reported.
