Hayek actually refused to debate him on his General Theory! Hayek thought it was a thorough waste of time because the General Theory was so obviously wrong about anything economic and just politically orientated. This kind of theory was only to be expected from a Fabian statist. Mises and Rothbard claimed that this was Hayek’s one big mistake, not debating the economics with Keynes. The Keynesians claimed victory due to default over the whole thing.
They were colleagues, though, and were well-known for having lengthy discussions while walking around campus.

Could that be the reason he would not debate Keynes? If he knew Keynes well through walking around the campus and debating with him while walking, he might just have found that Keynes was an intransigent solipsistic narcissist who would weasel on anything he said.

That's my impression.

Ok, so I’m not the only one that thinks this. Sometimes I wonder if I am not looking at things unrealistically.
