I think, rather than a bloodbath in academia, there has been a bloodbath in the reputation of experts, which is well deserved. The problem was that people never asked who was paying whom for what. I guess the old “follow the money” trope may be very true in every case to discern who to trust and who not to trust when they give advice. I will never trust anyone that says that we should be censoring anybody for saying anything at all. We can all use our own judgment and discernment to find the truth. BS meters work very well, too.
