For I would say the last few months for the most part a ton of my posts and comments have been in the political sphere. After all I do work on The Hill on a House Committee so it’s kinda what I know. However, when I first started posting here a lot of my posts discussed my health and what all I have been through these last few years.
I was shocked when I saw the news of such a big named prospect for the NHL who was just drafted in the first round a couple of years ago retire. When I saw his diagnosis though I completely understood.
While there are numerous kinds of EDS and a couple are pretty bad/could kill you. Based off on what he shared and what I’ve read I’m just going to chalk it up to “normal” EDS. What I call normal is the hyper-mobility of your joints and the random other issues you have when your bodies connective tissue is crap.
Collagen, which provides supports and structure to connective tissue is crap. With me my shoulders can dislocate by stepping off a curb (horrible story lol) and I constantly roll my ankles and my knees/hips will just pop and give out. Being a pro athlete esp. in a high contact sport like hockey… it’s not good. Injuries nag and take months longer to heal and essentially I have to go to physical therapy the rest of my life to “keep myself together.”
Over the years I’ve had to give up a ton of activities because of EDS. Baseball, softball, and some others just used my joints like my shoulders to much for me to keep it together. It is a shame to see a kid lose out on his dream because of it but for his health it’s for the best. He also was able to end his career on a high note. It wasn’t like he was terrible and forced out he just lost the genetic lottery.
That’s too bad but I respect him for making the decision to prioritize his health over the game.

EDS is a bitch and a half. I look back at what I used to be able to do and I am just amazed. Now i feel like if I look at something to hard I loose a body part.

I can't imagine the ordeal. You seem to be managing well and making the most out of life though.
