One benchmark imo of how developed a society's software development skills are overall, is whether more people want to build the next Facebook or hunt down digital money thieves and other cyber bullies.
We don't need 1000 social media apps. Just like I don't need 1000 town squares for getting the local news.
What I do need, however, is the skill to never fear a cyber bully. Just like muscle and some karate can help one not fear getting mugged at night.
So if I was to build some sort of global software development index; building apps, games, and all sorts of stuff to get other people's attention and enslave them to one's dopamine machine, would rank lower than being able to keep money secure from digital thieves, keeping databases secure from bugs of all sorts, keeping crucial data secure from any sort of deletion, etc.
Infact, with crypto, money stolen from anybody should be recoverable. With the thieves hunted down and reverse hacked.
Just like if a criminal in the real world stole money, it would be hard to get away with it.
Moreover, even if this cyber thief / bully is hired by a big gun, on the internet, titles are respected less than results.
Thoughts.
