I was just thinking about making a post in ~gaming about this.
There is some really interesting monetization potential and different business models for game developers in doing so.
What I was thinking about was an RPG where the purchase price of the game is the total amount of currency in the game world. Upon beating the game you can withdraw whatever amount you've earned back.
That's a very interesting idea. Seems a bit weird to me, but it's an idea none the less.
Yeah, having bitcoin/lightning means that games can have biiig and small purchase points.
So for example a DLC with say one quest could be 1 sat, but a full storyline could be 100 sats, with new items and all that stuff.
I think it will only take one game dev to do this to really see the potential.
The fact that bitcoin/lightning is on the phones, things like being on console isn't an issue, just need a QR code and mobile data.

The idea came to me while I was thinking about how to fix the common problem of your character becoming stupidly rich way to easily.
The solution I was thinking about was to impose real scarcity in the game, in terms of stuff mostly, but it dawned on me that there’s no need for a separate scarce in-game money when we already have scarce digital money.

I agree. I'm currently playing modded fallout 4 and have the bottlecap perk x2 and I just loot the caps from the storage and now, lvl ~30 I have like 4K caps.
