Wow that's a great deal. My wife got quoted $120 to fix the screen on her old phone. She didn't bother. Just waited until the contract was up and got a new phone.

Maybe the service cost is way too much there?
How many repair shops do you see around you?
We have at least a 1000 mobile repair shops all around us. They all are doing great because 200k people in the town and at least 800k living in villages around the town I liv in.
The numbers are approximate. We didn't have census after 2011.

Even in the city where there are a lot of places it was still pretty expensive. Maybe not $120 but you definitely pay 60-80.

The service costs + rents are much higher from here I guess. The screens are imported from China for $1 to $10 based on type.
Mine is IPS LCD which is not high end, it costs less than a dollar when you bulk buy from china. Till it reaches the retailer here, I assume $1 in additional costs and $ 1 profit to intermediaries. And I paid around $7 which is still more than the double amount at which the retailer buys it.
The real reason of being it so cheap here and having so many mobile repair shops lies in the culture as well. We keep on getting things repaired until they are completely useless.
The shop where I got the repair employs 7 boys including him and while I was getting my phone repaired there were at least 10 more people waiting for theirs.
Having more population is definitely a boon.
I’m sure you will make it back within a week lol
