Hey everyone, Joe Martin here. Singer songwriter from the UK. Advocate for bitcoin, nostr and the value for value ethos. Please fire away with any questions you have!

Hey Joe. Nice to have you back on SN. Been awhile.

Working on some new music?

reply

Hey @grayruby. I am working towards a new album, which will be my biggest project to date. I can't give away too much info yet. But there will be some great names involved and it will be recorded in Nashville. More TBA :D

reply

That's great news. Looking forward to it. Are you spending most of your time in the States now?

reply

No, I visit as much as budget will permit, but I've recently moved to Isle of Man (last week). So feels like a new start / adventure!

reply

That's great. You ever tour in Canada?

reply

No, but I would love to play and visit some day. I hear good things about the scene in Canada. Believe they like their country music too?

reply

Country music is very popular in Western Canada. There is a quality independent music scene in Toronto. I used to play and promote shows in Toronto many moons ago.

reply

very cool! I would love to gig over there at some point. Bet it's easier than the states to perform?

Do you like fish and chips?

reply

Only if cooked in tallow. I get a bad stomach on the seed oil fish and chips now...

Have you tried to onboard other musicians to nostr? What's their reaction like usually?

reply

I was having a conversation with an artist friend the other day about how bad traditional social media is getting. When I raised the possiblity that nostr could be a better solution. They didn't seem interested. There's a herd mentality with things like social media, and artists are always reluctant to try somthing 'out there' and new. I will keep pushing though

Can v4v scale for big artists?

Say all the top artists moved to Wavlake do you think the smaller unknown artists would lose like on Spotify?

reply

Awesome! Is there any hope for the UK?

reply

hope for the music industry or just in general? ๐Ÿ˜…

reply

I meant the country in general, haha

reply

I'm not hopeful, things are getting bad quickly. I see it touring around the country every year and it's getting worse very quickly. Even well off, nice towns, are becoming run down at a very fast pace. That was a big reason I wanted to move for a while, see how things play out. Hope they can turn things around but there needs to be a big shake up

reply

What the doneness is your favorite?

reply

I'm a medium rare. Right down the middle ๐Ÿ˜…

reply

Good choice. I think it's the most juicy option

Hey Joe nice to see you back on SN, whatโ€™s your take on AIโ€™s impact on music right now in music if any?

reply

How do you verify a blockchain transaction?

reply

I see someone already asked your favorite V4V artists, which would have been my first question! Some of my favorites are on that list.

So I'll ask this instead: Who are your favorite artists that haven't done V4V yet?

reply

Rock on! How is bitcoin impacting the music ๐ŸŽถ industry in the short and long term?

reply

Short term, I think it lets artists find a new audience who have shared values and ideas. Long term, it offers a model to break away from labels / social platforms that want to commoditize the art and lets artist create on their own terms, and build a sustainable career

If you had to give up one - singing, songwriting, or guitar - which would you give up?

reply

I think if I had to choose between writing songs and performing. I would give up performing and just write songs (if other people would sing them)

reply

What is your dream venue to play a show at?

reply

Definetely the Ryman Auditorium / Grand Ole Opry in Nashville or Red Rocks in Colorado

reply

I had an excellent podcast conversation with Aaron AKA BTC Essex recently - stoked to hear about the big gig coming up for you guys!

No question, but for those reading these comments, give us the rundown on that event, and why people should check it out if they're in the UK area

reply

So the gig will feature myself, Longy and Nathan Abbott. As far as I know, it will be the first ever value for value show in the UK. We're hoping to attract some no-coiner general music fans and get some sats into their hands so they can participate in the zapping of the show. Will be interesting to see how it goes. Feels like being a part of history!

reply

If you could only listen to one of your songs for the rest of your life, which one would it be?

reply

haha whatever song, I choose here will be ruined if I had to listen to it for the rest of my life. But my favourite song every, is God Only Knows by the Beach Boys https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpd4jzKA4SA
