bitcoin.softforks.org is a research database intended to both educate the bitcoin community about currently-active soft fork proposals as well as assist in evaluating these proposals against each other.
Some soft fork proposals have overlapping, if not wholly redundant, functionality. Some proposals might generate new forms of “mevil” — MEV that is potentially harmful to bitcoin as a whole — while others are more benign. Some proposals help with scaling while others are more focused on privacy or security.
This project intends to surface these distinctions and make them easy to compare at-a-glance, then dive deeper for better understanding.
While this project aims to be a comprehensive database of soft forks and their relevant use-cases, primitives, components, and other facts and figures, there may be information missing, or possibly incorrect or out of date. Bitcoin soft forks are a constantly evolving area of research. If you see something that looks off, or have any kind of idea for improving the site, open an issue to start a discussion.
