Sorry, total noob, and I tried to find the answer in the FAQ but couldn’t and prior posts about this weren’t explainers.
Spend 100 CCs or sats here, and you'll find a cowboy hat. Don't be active for a day, or spend less, or get less than 100 CCs or sats, and you might lose it. I don't know if I'm correct here though.
First rule of Stacker News is that we don't explicitly explain how to get a cowboy hat.

I lost mine after 36 days.. I was new and it was a big pain in my ass. But decided to be calm and make another streak amd lost one after another. Now I don't care. Better to think it never existed for me. It helped. It's a part of Easter eggs here.
Ah, that explains it. I was active yesterday and zapped, but I don’t think I received too many (which is OK, I’m not here to extract).

I think the funniest trend I see over and over again is most stackers won’t even reply to you unless you have a cowboy hat at the very least.
Personally if I’ve seen you here before I’ll talk to you. If you have a cowboy hat makes it easier to trust ya for a conversation.

I go through dry spells just cause I get busy with life, but I would pay for a cowboy hat if sn let me.
