Alberta is definitely up for grabs. They are completely fed up of providing the country with energy and being treated like crap by the federal government.

I was reading an article the other day by an opinion columnist for one of the left leaning publications and he said "let Alberta go, they are only 15% of the economy, it would hurt but we can weather that".

I think he forgot energy is the first input to everything and the economy won't be performing very well when people don't have heat, gasoline or food.

The average person has no clue what goes into maintaining their standard of living. Food comes from the grocery store, electricity from the outlet and gasoline from the gas station. They just presume that would continue.

He certainly campaigned as more moderate. We will see how he governs. He doesn't have a majority but he effectively does if he gets the NDP on board, which shouldn't be too hard.

There's only one small road connecting it to the other provinces. That hardly requires an invasion. Just send like 4 guys in a couple of pickup trucks to block entry.

I only meant easy in the sense of politically easy, of making himself and the republican party more popular, with high approval ratings.

IMO if he limited himself to cracking down on wildly unpopular things, like DEI, transgender in sports, and deporting criminals, and left the government agencies and tariffs untouched, he'd probably have a much higher approval rating.

Of course he would be... that should tell you something about the state of the US. That's not good.

Do you think the gov agencies are all needed and efficiently run? Do you think they are staffed with people that only want to serve the needs of their countrymen?

I don't. Its a massive bureaucracy full of organizations that suffer from the Iron Law of Bureaucracy.

So... it makes one wonder. Maybe Trump doesn't prioritize popularity over his mission. Whatever that is.

I absolutely think that many agencies should be cut and/or be made more efficient.

I don't know if I want him to die on that hill and I just worry that going after the deep state too hard will just result in a failure of much more doable priorities, like rolling back DEI and getting immigration under control.

For example, look at what happened in Canada. I don't think that's a positive development and it clearly can be blamed on Trump pushing too hard on certain issues.

For sure. Plenty of his decisions are dumb to me and counter productive. I think the going hard on fed gov with Elon was good. If nothing else it was education for future generations. The Canada stuff is just dumb and counterproductive. But my views are massively different from Trumps. I would rather see the US become smaller not bigger. Adding Canada would be a terrible idea.

I do like that Trump's tariff stuff is triggering the left to suddenly discover Bastiat, lol.

His pointless antagonism is a big factor in Canada's election being lost to the left. That's just stupid and achieved nothing.

He is good at getting people pissed off, and through their anger, revealing how terrible their positions are. But this isn't a case where that strategy actually achieved something worthwhile.

Also, Trump is repeating Biden's mistakes on Ukraine. Trump has been making those mistakes in a different way. But the mistakes are fundamentally the same: thinking that appeasement and diplomacy will achieve peace. Killing Russians and crushing their economy will achieve peace.

They're just evil. Treat them like you would a common criminal.

I guess I should say something positive at least: Trump is doing a good job at gutting DEI and far left funding. In particular, eliminating the disparate impact test was a really good move. And obviously, he's been good for cryptocurrencies.

Better than I would about a Harris first 100. As much as I do not support the system I have to remind myself of this. My ideal is very unlikely to be realized in my lifetime or even 50 more years... but it could get so much worse than it is and unlike many that don't support Trump I wish him no ill.

He's managed to tarnish America's brand and reputation significantly... eroding the trust in the Dollar and in Treasury Bonds all the while making the American people poorer and more isolated from the rest of the world...

It's kind of like South American economic populism... but brought to the United States!

His policies are wildly inconsistent with themselves... with anything but a superficial analysis.

The greatest irony of course is that he'll "tariff" (ie tax the exports of) any country threatening to 'go off the dollar'... while he promotes cryptocurrencies and their adoption! It's like don't use 'the dollar' we'll charge you extra for that... buy more of our stuff... so use Bitcoin instead!

I pay less for gas $3.6 -> $2.75 I will take that. IMHO people need t take emotions out of this. The Govt, no matter if blue or red (or green or polkadot) will be the govt, which means they don't care about you , they pretend they do. I think he has been doing great, but I really would like him to be showing some of the wins he has had over the past couple of weeks. I know many tariff deals are closing, or are about to be closing - and from the markets and many peoples view - he hasn't been showing any wins. Coming in hot for sure. I'm all for digging up the dirt on where our money has been going for sure, but I think he needs to cool it on our foreign relations. We need friendly relations with everyone. Countries pulling out of the US treasury market is not a good sign (but, for bitcoin it is)
