Sucks that they require KYC to use cash payments

Unfortunately Uber-style taxis are a thing where anonymous assholes can cause a lot of problems. Same issue with rentable scooters and Airbnb.
Still better if just Uber has my AML/KYC than a credit card company; I basically always pay Uber with cash when I'm in a country where it is possible.

That’s why there’s a star rating.
Don’t accept a ride request from a low-rated passenger or take the small risk.

Indeed. Uber is MUCH better than traditional taxis where you have no clue if the driver or rider are trouble. No system is perfect but reputation systems can help. Kinda surprised at this response. Same goes for eBay and other services. We have the tools and knowledge to do anarchic transactions with others without a state being the overlord in all our interactions. That's the alternative. No thank you.

It’s really interesting and puts it into perspective about how many Americans remain under banked.
It’d be interesting to see what the take rate on it and how closely it tracks to 14% Americans.

About 14% of U.S. households, or 19 million, were considered underbanked in 2023 and may rely on cash to pay for services, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation said in a November report on the state of unbanked and underbanked Americans.
Uber declined to reveal how many trips have been completed using cash since it began the program on March 11, how many riders are verified, or how long its pilot period would last. The company spokesperson also declined to say whether Uber had made any conclusions about further expanding cash payments options.
Super curious to hear how well it's working. They'd only expand it if the initial test proved it viable.

They have been offering this for ages outside the US, as well as their competitors. And they don't ask for ID verification. Precisely one of the points of using cash is to remain private.
And calling cash "exotic" is pathetic.

... I think they are being ironic. That's how I read it.

The system hates it when you pay in bitcoin. The system REALLY hates it when you pay in cash.
